ESSAY CONTEST RULES
1. Tell your story: Why would you like to own the “River House”
The essay should be persuasive, telling your story. It should tell why you would like to own the “River House”. 
    Essays will be judged on four areas:
       A. Does it follow  the topic? (1 pt.) 
       B. Is it grammatically correct? (1 pt.)
       C. Does it show creativity? (2 pts.)
       D. Most importantly, does it provide inspiration or vision? (6 pts.)

2. ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
 It should be an  original unpublished essay of 200 words or less in English. The words “a” and “I” count

towards the word count total in the body of the essay. The title does not count toward the word count total.
An Individual or organization may submit multiple entries as long as each essay is original and accompanied

by its own entry form and entry fee.  Multiple copies of the same essay will not be accepted.

 Essay entry mailed through United States Postal Service should use 12 pt. font, double spaced and fit on one

side of white 8 ½” by 11” paper with standard margins. Or essay entry may be submitted using online form.
 Essay should NOT include any identifying information including but not limited to the entrant’s name, address,

or other details. Identifying information should only be provided on the entry form. 

To keep it fair, each entry will be assigned an identification number. Independent judges will only see the  identification number.

3. ELIGIBILITY
The essay contest may be entered by anyone  who is eighteen years of age or older. This contest is void

where prohibited. The sponsors of the contest (current owners), judges, and NO family members of those

previously mentioned may  participate as an entrant to the contest.
 
4. ESSAY SUBMISSION OPTIONS
Essays may be submitted either online or through the US Postal service. 

Entries using the US Postal system should include two (2) self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the purpose

of confirming receipt of the entry/escrow certificate and notification of the name of the contest winner or a

refund in the event that the minimum number of entrants is not met. The entries should be addressed to:

Entries submitted electronically will receive confirmation receipt/escrow certificate electronically and notification

of the name of the contest winner or an electronic refund in the event that the minimum number of entrants is

not met.

Both methods of essay submission must be accompanied by a completed, Contest Entry Form. Submission of

essay with payment is an agreement to accept River House Contest rules. All entries shall be deemed received whether or not the essay adheres to the stated technical requirements.

5. ENTRY FEE
Each entry must be finalized with a payment of a $199 USD entry fee. The entrant can choose the 

Pay Now Tab OR send a cashier’s check for $199 USD must be made payable to “River Valley Financial Bank”. 

Personal checks will not be accepted.

6. ENTRY DEADLINE
The contest period is August 1, 2015 through November 30, 2015. Entries, including both the essay and the completed Contest Entry Form must be received on or before November 30, 2015, 11:59:59 PM . The processing deadline for electronic payment is November 30, 2015, 11:59:59 PM . Responsibility for lost,

late, or misdirected entries rests with the entrant. Any entries received after the deadline will be disqualified.

7. COPYRIGHT AND PUBLICATION
Essay contest entry constitutes an assignment to the sponsors of all copyrights arising under both statute and

the common law and all other rights derivative there from. 
By entering the essay contest, entrants grant permission for the sponsors to publish all or part of the submitted essay and to use the entrant’s name and photograph to publicize the winning entries, all without royalty or other consideration.

8. JUDGES
The sponsors of the contest will not be involved in judging the essays. A panel of independent judges will

review the essays. The judges will not be related to the sponsors of the essay contest

or have vested interest in the property. The names of the judges shall not be released except to a public

authority requesting such information within the scope of its jurisdiction.

9. SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF THE WINNING ESSAY
A contest winner, first runner-up and second runner-up shall be selected by the judges. The winner will be

notified by December 30, 2015. If the winner refuses in writing to

accept the contest prize, then it shall be awarded to the first runner-up. Likewise, should the first runner-up

refuse in writing to accept the contest prize, it will be awarded to the second runner-up.

10. EXTENSIONS (the contest has been extended till Nov. 30, 2015)
The sponsors reserve the sole right to extend the entry deadline of the essay contest and determination of the winner for a period of up to sixty (60) days.

11. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIZE PROPERTY
The sponsors will present the contest winner with the warranty deed to the property known as the “River House” located in Indiana: Switzerland County: Jefferson Township (Parcel # 78-13-09-200-011.001-003 ;

Legal Description: 003-013-09-200-011-001 PT 9-1-2 containing 1.677 AC ) free of any liens, back taxes, or encumbrances. Personal property does not transfer as a part of the Contest prize. The 2015 property taxes to

be paid in November 2015 are the responsibility of the sponsors; subsequent property taxes will be the

responsibility of the contest winner. The winner agrees to accept the property "As Is".

12. PRIZE TRANSFER
The transfer of the prize properties shall occur within thirty (30) days after the notification of the prize winner.

An extension of an additional thirty (30) days may be granted by the sponsors if deemed necessary.


13. TAXES / FEES
The winning entrant shall be solely responsible for any and all taxes, including real estate transfer taxes,

closing costs, lawyer’s fees or fees of any kind imposed upon or arising out of a successful participation in this

essay contest. If the winner refuses to accept the prize property in writing, then the First Runner-Up becomes responsible for all above stated taxes and fees. Should the First Runner-Up refuse the prize property in writing,

then the Second Runner-Up shall become responsible for all above stated taxes and fees.

14. STATE, FEDERAL, AND INTERNATIONAL REGULATIONS
This contest is subject to the provision of all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This offer

is void where prohibited.

15. REFUNDS
Entry fee refunds will be made if 2,000 entries are not received. The sponsors, however, reserve the right to

accept fewer than 2,000 entries. Absolutely no refunds shall be made by reason of non-compliance or for any

other reason whatsoever, unless the 2,000 entry level has not been met. Should a refund of fees become

necessary, contestants will receive the refund of funds according to the manner the original fees were paid.

Entrants will receive a refund of their original $199 USD minus actual handling/accounting costs; according

to the manner in which it was submitted. Entry fee refund for cashiers check payment, will receive $197.50

after actual costs (Bank fee $1.50) . Entry fee refund for Pay Now Button after actual costs will be $191.43

after actual costs (2.9% plus $.30 and the the $1.50 bank fee) international fees will be actual costs.

If an unforeseen circumstance should arise that would make fulfilling the obligations of the contest impossible

on the part of the sponsors, the sponsors reserve the right to cancel the essay contest at any time prior to the Contest Deadline and issue a refund of  entry fees. We discontinued using PayPal in September; entries submitted will receive a paper refund. We apologize for any inconvenience.
